How to Reuse Press-On Nails (and Store Them Between Wears)
- Yes, you can reuse them. Bloom press-ons are made to be worn again and again
- Remove gently: remover oil for 1–2 minutes, or a long, warm, soapy soak
- Clean: buff off the old adhesive with a light touch and wipe with an alcohol pad
- Store: laid out flat, not piled together, somewhere dry and away from heat and sun
- Wear again: with fresh glue or a new sticky tab
That set you loved last weekend can have another outing. With press-ons, reuse starts with the way you take them off: soften the adhesive, clean the underside without over-buffing, then store the nails where they won’t get bent or scratched. Here’s a simple routine for bringing a set back into rotation.
Can you reuse press-on nails?
Yes. Bloom press-ons are hand-painted in salon-grade gel, so the design holds up through more than one wear. You can wear a set again as long as each nail stays intact and still sits flat.
Reusing a set also means a lower cost per wear, so a design you love becomes part of your rotation instead of a one-time look.
Step 1: Remove them gently
Soften the adhesive before lifting anything. Pulling or prying can crack the press-on and damage your natural nail.
- With remover oil: apply a few drops of remover oil under the edges, wait 1–2 minutes, then ease each nail off from the side.
- Without remover oil: soak your fingertips in warm water with a little soap and a few drops of oil for about 10 minutes, then lift gently.
If a nail resists, give it more time instead of forcing it. As you take each nail off, lay it down in the same order as your fingers, thumb to pinky. That way you’ll know exactly which nail goes on which finger next time. For step-by-step directions, see our guide on how to remove press-on nails without damage.
Step 2: Clean off the old adhesive
- Remove the old adhesive. Peel away used sticky tabs. For glue, gently buff the softened residue from the underside until it’s smooth and flat. Use a light touch so you don’t thin the press-on.
- Wipe with alcohol. Use an alcohol pad on each nail to remove dust and oil, then let them dry completely.
- Check each nail. Set aside any nail that is cracked, bent or no longer sits flat.
Every Bloom set comes with a dual-grit file and buffer plus alcohol prep pads, so you already have what you need.
Step 3: Store them the right way
- Lay them out flat. The original box works well, but any case is fine as long as the nails sit side by side instead of piled together, so the designs don’t rub and scratch.
- Put them back in order. Your next application will be quicker.
- Choose a dry spot. A drawer or shelf is better than a steamy bathroom.
- Avoid sun and heat. Keep them away from a sunny windowsill or a hot car.
Step 4: Reapply for your next wear
Prep your natural nails the same way every time: push back cuticles, lightly buff, wipe with alcohol and let them dry. Then choose your adhesive:
- Bloom nail glue for up to 3 weeks of wear.
- Sticky tabs for 3–5 days. Always use a fresh sticky tab, since they’re single-use.
- Sticky tabs + glue for about 7–10 days.
Whichever you choose, avoid water or oil for 30 minutes after application. Not sure which suits your plans? Read nail glue vs. sticky tabs. For the full application routine, see how to make press-on nails last up to 3 weeks.
When to replace a nail
Retire a nail if it’s cracked, chipped at the edge, bent, or no longer sits flat after cleaning. A damaged nail won’t hold as well and can catch on things.
You don’t need a whole new set for one nail. Email us at hello@bloomnailsco.com with your set name and size, and we’ll help you replace just that nail.
Reusing press-on nails: questions
Can you reuse press-on nails?
Yes. Bloom press-ons are hand-painted in salon-grade gel and made to be worn again and again. Remove them gently with remover oil or a long, warm, soapy soak, buff the old adhesive off the underside, wipe with alcohol and store the nails laid out flat.
How many times can you reuse press-on nails?
You can rewear a set as long as each nail stays intact and sits flat. Gentle removal and careful storage keep a set wearable the longest.
How do you get old glue off press-on nails?
Soften stubborn glue with remover oil or a long, warm, soapy soak, then gently buff the underside with a light touch until it’s smooth and flat. Wipe with an alcohol pad and let the nail dry completely before storing or reapplying.
Can you reuse sticky tabs?
No. Sticky tabs are single-use. Peel off the old sticky tab and use a fresh one each time you wear your set. The press-ons themselves can be reused.
How should you store press-on nails?
Lay the nails out flat, side by side, so they don’t rub together and scratch. The original box works well, but any case is fine as long as the nails aren’t piled up. Keep them somewhere clean and dry, away from direct sunlight and heat.
